Where are you located?

My office is located in Brooklyn, New York, where I am avaialable all day Saturdays (9am - 5pm). I also offer virtual sessions on weeknights between 5pm and 8pm.

Do you accept health insurance?

No, I do not accept any insurance. I will collect payment in full from you prior to service. If you have a PPO type plan and want to submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement, I can give you a receipt so that you can submit a claim. Please note that submitting an insurance claim means I will need to give you a mental health diagnosis.

Who do you work with?

I provide therapy for individuals and couples. My expertise is in anxiety, depression, trauma, race trauma, women’s issues, self-worth, and couples counseling.

What can I expect from therapy?

Many people feel nervous before their first appointment. Therapy is a shared experience; a shared process. Initially, I will ask you questions about what has brought you to the point of coming to therapy. I will listen carefully to what you share and together we will shape the direction of your work. We will discuss your goals and what you’d like to change, work toward. I may offer opinions and suggestions but I will not tell you what to do.

How long do appointments last?

Appointments are 45 minutes with the exception of your initial session which may be 55 minutes. This is the standard length of a counseling session. If you are interested in a longer session please contact me regarding availability and pricing.

How often will we meet?

On average, I meet with clients weekly or biweekly. I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting regularly in order to see the most progress. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often will make sense.

Can we have virtual sessions?

Yes! Virtual sessions can be just as effective as face to face. It is convenient and allows for a more flexible schedule. There are times where face to face may work better and I will discuss that with you on a case by case basis. Additionally, I only offer virtual sessions during the week in the evening.

How much do you charge?

  • $175 for individual 45 minute sessions
  • $200 for couples sessions
Payment will be collected prior to service.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hour notice for any cancellation. If you have to cancel a paid session and you do so within 24 hours you can reschedule the session for another day; session must be made up within 30 days. Refunds will not be provided.

What theoretical approach do you use?

I pull from a variety of theories and techniques. I find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Client-Centered Therapy, Psycho-Dynamic, Inner Child and Mindfulness techniques are often helpful for my clients.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I am not a medical doctor. Some of my patients find medication is helpful, but most of them also progress well in therapy without medication. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, please contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I can coordinate care with your doctor.

Are there any issues or types of clients that you DON’T work with?

I mostly work with adults but occasionally work with teenagers. I make that decision on a case by case basis. I do not conduct child custody evaluations nor do I provide custody recommendations. I also don’t provide treatment for eating disorders, psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, etc), or personality disorders.

How long does therapy last?

There are different variables to consider, such as: what your presenting issue may be, what kind of history you bring (for example, trauma), how you have coped with your problems until this point, what your goals are, etc. My goal is to help you get to a place where you no longer need me. Once your goals are met and your problems are solved or manageable you may decrease the number of visits or end therapy. We can discuss this further when we meet.

Why does therapy cost so much?

It may seem like therapists charge a lot of money. Like anyone who works independently, therapist’s fees pay for office space, office supplies, advertising, websites, continuing education, outside consultations, medical and malpractice insurance, transportation and vacation time. Look at the money you spend on therapy as an investment in your future. The benefits you experience will justify the expense. Be an active participant to your fullest capacity. Your therapy will take work - on your part and on mine. If you don't put honest effort forward you won't feel as if you are getting your money's worth and you will likely resent the cost.

Do you have a sliding scale fee program?

Yes! I understand that therapy can be expensive and believe everyone should have access to therapy regardless of financial limitations. I offer a sliding scale program for those experiencing financial hardship. I have offered reduced rates discounting the cost of sessions anywhere between 10% - 40% depending on the need. We can discuss your particular needs and decide how to move forward.
